The Art of Holding: Developing the Skills to Embrace Your Big Vision

Posted on April 6th, 2023

There’s a difference between desiring big things…and becoming the woman who can actually hold them.

Ambition often feels like living between two worlds:

The one where you are now and the one where you know you’re meant to be.

If you aren’t intentional, the space between can begin to feel like you are in limbo, like your life is on pause until you get “there.” Like until your circumstances change, right now isn’t good enough.

Unconsciously, you begin to expect your big vision to come save you. “I’ll be happy when….”

And the longer it takes to arrive, the more your ambition feels like a curse.

You give away your power to circumstances, without realizing your big vision wasn’t yours to begin with—it was God’s.

And if your power is given to circumstances, rather than to yourself and your co-creation with God, then the “less than perfect” circumstances that come WITH the big vision cannot be held by you.

When you learn to anchor into your identity as the woman who is chosen, the woman who is anointed for God’s big vision to be birthed through you, you become the woman who is responsible enough to be a steward of it.

It can be easy to pray for the big vision…

but have you developed into the woman who can hold what comes with it?

Are you the woman who can:
Hold the pressure
Approach the tough conversations
Commit to the vision no matter what
Face criticism
Disappoint people
Use her voice
Lead when it’s hard to

Become her first. The rest responds to you.

A Message on Pain and Pleasure

Posted on March 31st, 2023

Your capacity to feel pain directly impacts your capacity to experience pleasure.

Think of a time you felt tremendous pleasure.
Now think of a time you felt immense pain.

Notice how both hold sensation. They are both simply…SENSATION.

The only difference between pain and pleasure is simply that we resist pain. We turn away from it. Instead of being WITH the pain, we judge it as bad.

“I shouldn’t be feeling this way.”
“  I don’t want to feel this way.  ”
“Why do I have to be so sensitive?”
 “I’m so dramatic.”
“This shouldn’t be happening.”

When we don’t know how to feel pain, we don’t know how to feel sensation. And if we don’t know how to feel sensation, we also don’t know how to fully experience pleasure, because it’s sensation, too!

The more you can expand your capacity to feel pain, the more pleasure opens up. And vice versa.

Have you ever had a whole new appreciation for your health and “feeling good” AFTER you were sick?  You didn’t know how good feeling healthy was until you experienced the contrast. The increased pleasure was felt because of the heightened pain that came before it.

What if all sensation = aliveness?
What if feeling it all was what made you whole?
What if you stopped cutting yourself in half, only accepting the high-vibe experiences, and instead embraced it all?

Answer this:  What’s one thing that could make this moment 10 percent more pleasurable right now?

What you need to know about Telemental Health

Posted on June 30th, 2021

With folks being confined to their homes, and unable to maintain their normal routines, there is a global heightening of anxiety and extreme isolation. Now more than ever, improving and/or maintaining our mental health is an urgent matter. I know firsthand how hard therapists all over the country are working to ensure that their current clients and new clients have access to these must needed services.

What is Telemental Health?
Telemental health is the provision of remote mental health services (typically done via video. but can also be provided through text, email, or telephone.)by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists. Historically, the platforms that services are provided on, had to be HIPAA compliant. Given the sudden halt to services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, associations, and insurance panels have allowed more flexibility to the platforms that therapy can be provided on. What that means for you, is that sessions can be conducted on platforms such as FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and Skype. in the form of online counseling for depression. Your therapist will provide you with an informed consent discussing the limits, to confidentiality when sessions are conducted on a non- HIPPA compliant platform in addition to other logistics that will ensure a productive therapy session.

Who can receive Telemental Health Services?
The short answer to this is Everyone. You can be an existing client or a new client. You can be seen as an individual or as a couple or family. There can even be group sessions provided using this medium. In my own practice, I have used video sessions for individual therapy and couple’s therapy, who require online counseling for depression,  although it may take some getting used to, everyone adjusts a few minutes and the sessions deliver the same value as when they are face to face.

Why should you try out Telemental health?
The reality is the whole world stands in a place of uncertainty. Uncertainty about our health, our finances, and our futures. This level of uncertainty can spiral someone into a very unhealthy space. Additionally, there’s no playbook for surviving a pandemic so we are all novices at this. Psychological counseling Having a space that is carved out to process feelings and learn healthy coping is essential. There is a multitude of positive coping strategies that can be implemented, resulting in emerging from this devastating time more resilient than when you entered it. There are equally a number of unhealthy and destructive ways to get through this Pandemic. its helpful in online counseling for depression. We do not have control of much of our external world, which speaks to the importance of understanding and managing our internal world even more. Therapy is the space to learn how to do just that.

Signs that you may benefit from continuing or starting therapy via Telemental Health.
I believe that we all can use mental health services as I view therapy as another form of preventative health care, however, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms or exhibiting these behaviors, I would recommend that you 1) not cancel your sessions with your current therapist or 2) Find a therapist now that is offering telehealth services.

1. Extreme isolation
2. Increased Anxiety
3. Inability to manage negative thoughts
4. Constantly checking the news.
5. Soothing with unhealthy foods or alcohol
6. Overwhelm
7. Inability to sleep or sleeping too much
8. Irritability/anger outburst

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of video therapy, I would highly encourage you to try it out at least a couple of times before writing it off completely. Many people have been pleasantly surprised by the experience and appreciate its convenience of it. Imagine a couple’s therapy without having to find a babysitter! (Post kids’ bedtime of course). Just like traditional face-to-face sessions, you as a client have the right to try out as many therapists as needed until you find a good fit.
Lastly, keep in mind that most private practice therapists are also small business owners, they depend on their clients showing up to sustain their livelihood as well. Please keep that in mind before you cancel your session. In this season we all need to support each other.

How to find a Telehealth Therapist
Honestly, most therapists, like myself, have either exclusively gone to telemental health services or have it as an option. I would recommend looking at Psychology Today, entering your zip code, and finding a clinician in your area that matches your needs. Many have done a COVID-19 update that will let you know if they have taken sessions online. Also, if you think that you will continue with the telemental health post-Pandemic, you can use any therapist licensed in your state also find online counseling for depression to navigate this tumultuous time we have to step up our mental, physical, and spiritual health. I encourage everyone to utilize all of the resources available to them.

Sending you all so much love and light!

Discover the Power of Self-Care to Fight Stress

SELF-CARE TO FIGHT STRESS

ANDREA R. JOHNSON

Chronic stress and anxiety can wear you out. However, self-care can be a powerful remedy that restores your mind and body.

Try these self-care techniques to find relief for your stress:

  1. Make your health a You may have stress coming from multiple directions such as work, school, family, kids, neighbors, or others. However, it’s important to establish your health as a top consideration. Find a balance between taking care of others and taking care of yourself.
  2. Understand the fundamentals of self-care. Self-care is a conscious effort to put yourself first. It requires you to take time for activities that nourish and sustain your body, mind, and spirit. When you prioritize taking care of yourself, you build a lifestyle that focuses on healthy choices. Build self-care into your daily habits, such as eating a healthy breakfast and exercising.
  3. Start with one healthy habit a day. If self-care isn’t a normal part of your life, it may be difficult to get used to it. However, you can start with one small habit and you’ll see positive changes. By implementing one healthy habit each day, you’ll begin your journey of taking better care of yourself. The habit can be a tiny change, such as eating oatmeal for breakfast or having a salad for lunch. The key is to pick something small that is easy to do. Then, you can build from this foundation and add other habits. If you try too many activities at once, you’re likely to get overwhelmed or discouraged
  4. Find your own path. It’s easy to get caught up in the self-care practices that others use. However, it’s more effective to find your own path to wellness. Find the tips and habits that work best for your lifestyle. You may not have time to eat a healthy lunch or exercise every day. There are other ways to take care of yourself. Be willing to experiment with different ideas to figure out which self-care practices work well for you.
  5. Continue growing. It’s not enough to add one self-care habit and move on. Stress will continue to be a factor as long as you’re on this planet. It’s important to discover new self-care habits to alleviate your stress. Over time, the stress may come from different directions. For example, if your job is going well, you may suddenly discover issues at home. If your family life is fine, you may be worried about getting laid off. You may feel overwhelmed at times and as if you’re taking steps back. Nevertheless, continue forward and make self-care a top priority.

As your life changes, your self-care habits will also change. You might find that oatmeal for breakfast starts causing stomachaches, or injuries that prevent you from exercising every day. Self-care can come from multiple channels. You can change things up and still find success.
