Amino Acid Therapy for Brain Repair: Unleashing Hope for Mental Health

Posted on May 30th, 2023

In the realm of mental health, finding effective therapies for brain repair and overall well-being is an ongoing pursuit. One exciting avenue that has captured attention is amino acid therapy. This approach taps into the power of specific amino acids to support the production of brain chemicals, called neurotransmitters, and promote healing. In this blog post, we will explore how amino acid therapy holds promise for individuals facing mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and how it can improve family dynamics and relationships.

Understanding Amino Acids and Neurotransmitters:

Amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, play a vital role in the creation of neurotransmitters—the messengers that enable communication within our brains. By focusing on specific amino acids, we can influence neurotransmitter levels and optimize brain function.

The Role of Amino Acids in Neurotransmitter Production:

Tryptophan: Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, acts as a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation. Maintaining adequate tryptophan levels is crucial for sustaining a healthy emotional state.

Tyrosine: Tyrosine, another amino acid, serves as a building block for dopamine and norepinephrine, neurotransmitters involved in motivation, focus, and stress response. Sufficient tyrosine availability supports mental clarity and resilience.

GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid): GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that helps regulate anxiety, stress, and sleep. GABA synthesis relies on the amino acid glutamine, making it a key component for emotional stability.

Amino Acid Deficiencies and Mental Health:

Research indicates that imbalances or deficiencies in specific amino acids can contribute to mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and ADHD. By addressing these deficiencies through amino acid therapy, we can potentially alleviate symptoms and support brain repair.

Amino Acid Therapy in Mental Disorders and Relationships:

Depression and Anxiety:

Amino acid therapy shows promise in benefiting individuals experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety. For instance, supplementing with tryptophan or its precursor, 5-HTP, has been found to increase serotonin levels and improve mood. Similarly, enhancing GABA synthesis through glutamine supplementation may help reduce anxiety symptoms.

ADHD and Focus Issues:

Amino acid therapy also holds potential in addressing attention and focus issues associated with ADHD. By providing sufficient levels of tyrosine, we can support the production of dopamine and norepinephrine, potentially improving attention span and cognitive function.

Strengthening Relationships:

Amino acid therapy can positively impact family and couple relationships. By improving neurotransmitter balance, individuals may experience enhanced emotional stability, better communication, and reduced stress levels, leading to healthier and more fulfilling relationships overall.

Amino acid therapy holds immense promise for brain repair and mental health. By targeting specific amino acids, we can optimize neurotransmitter production and support overall well-being. If you or a loved one is living with a mental disorder, incorporating amino acid therapy into your treatment plan may open new avenues for hope and healing. Remember, mental health treatment is multifaceted, and amino acid therapy should be used as part of a comprehensive approach. Stay informed about the latest research and consult with a qualified healthcare professional to explore the best options for your unique circumstances.

Together, let’s embark on an empowering journey, embracing the possibilities that amino acid therapy offers to individuals and families facing mental health challenges.

From Distress to Self-Soothing: The Power of Therapy

Posted on May 1st, 2023

We have to first learn how to be soothed with another before we can learn to soothe ourselves.

What often times happens is that we are left to feel distress alone or our distress is invalidated or punished.

“Go to time out until you calm down”
“You’re so dramatic”
“That’s nothing to cry about”

Or maybe we just learned to function and never share what we were going through.

This pattern inhibits our ability to self soothe and BE with our own emotional experiences. They can feel “too much” “overwhelming”.

In order to turn away from what’s happening inside, we manage by numbing or distracting.

This can look like:

Overworking
Over exercising
Using substances
Constant cleaning
Yelling
Need for someone around all the time
Problem solving for others
Etc, etc, etc.

Therapy can be one of the best spaces to soothe that inner distress and allow for you to learn to be with your emotions again.

Anxiety vs. Intuition: Recognizing the Difference

Posted on April 26th, 2023

Anxiety vs. Intuition How do you know the difference?

Anxiety and Intuition can both protect us from harm. However, intuition has a very sure, loving presence in our body. It is clear and direct. When intuition is present there is no worry or panic.

Anxiety is all fear and worry and what ifs. It asks more questions than gives answers. It can be unsure and confused. It’s concerned with the what next, or opinions, thoughts and feelings of others.

Anxiety is what occurs in the presence of fear, Intuition is what you hear in the absence of fear.

When you have a dysregulated nervous system, the lack of safety and self trust drowns out intuition. It never leaves us but it’s whispers are often missed.

In order to increase the volume of our intuition we have to decrease the volume of our anxiety, regulate our system and come back into a place of safety and balance.

If you are interested in practices that can regulate you find that sense of balance and safety inside, join my email list!

Thanking Our Bodies: Embracing the Brilliance Within

Posted on April 12th, 2023

Hey, Body: You were never broken. You were and are always working brilliantly to keep me safe.

I’m sorry for all of the years I didn’t understand this.

I know you get a bad rap, but I see you now. I hear you now. I trust you now.

Even when I fought against you, even when I didn’t listen, you never stopped protecting me.

I acknowledge the work you’re doing. Thank you.

Friend, your feelings are your body’s way of communicating with you. They are armor. Your body does so much work to keep you safe. Have you thanked it lately?

Healing exercise: Close your eyes and place both hands over your heart. Breathe deeply and consciously. As you feel and hear your heartbeat within you, notice how it brilliantly beats without you telling it to do so. Say aloud, “Thank you, heart. Thank you, body.”

9 USEFUL TIPS FOR DEALING WITH ISOLATION

Posted on January 13th, 2022

Some struggle tremendously with solitude. If you’re used to more human contact than you’ve been receiving lately, you know that it can be uncomfortable.

HUMANS ARE SOCIAL CREATURES.

Historically, we’re not well-equipped to conquer the world alone. We are biologically wired to connect! The ability to survive alone is a recent phenomenon. There!s a part of you that needs to be around others.

Manage your isolation in a healthy manner with these strategies…

1. UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY.

You can still interact with people from all over the world, even if the opportunities to leave your home are very limited. Consider phone or video chat. Forums, social media websites, and various cell phone apps make it possible to stay in contact with others.

2. READ.

One great thing you can do alone that!s hard to do well with others is read. If you can read this article, you have access to millions of books online. Try reading something you would!t normally consider reading. It!s a great way to shake things up.

3. LISTEN TO MUSIC.

There!s a never-ending supply of free music available to you. You can find nearly any song you want and listen to it as many times as you like. Feel free to dance while you’re at it. No one is watching.

4. MEET  AT  THE  PARK.

Call up a friend and meet at the park. Keep your distance but have a nice chat. You can even set up a few chairs in your driveway and enjoy the day together. A few snacks and beverages can go a long way.

5. MAINTAIN A SCHEDULE.

If you’re stuck at home, it!s important to maintain some semblance of a schedule. Go to bed at the same time each night. Keep up with your personal grooming. Plan out your chores. Eat on a schedule. Most human beings struggle when they have unlimited time and little structure.

6. GET SOME EXERCISE.

Your body still needs to move, breathe heavily, and sweat a little. Find ways to work out without leaving your home. There are plenty of workout videos you can stream to your television set. Jump rope in the driveway. Fill your wheelbarrow up with dirt and take a stroll. Do some sit-ups.

7. PLANT A GARDEN.

Get out in the sun and grow some food. You!ll eat better, save some money, and get a fair amount of exercise. You!ll prove to yourself that life can!t be stopped. As a bonus, children love gardens.

8. LEARN SOMETHING.

The internet is overflowing with free and inexpensive courses. You could learn to speak Mandarin, how to build a website, or how to maintain your motorcycle. There is a course for whatever you want to learn. What interests you? Find a way to explore that interest.

9. GET A PET.

There are puppies, kittens, birds, reptiles, and fish being born each day that need a home. If you already have a pet, consider spending more time with it. It might be time to teach your dog to roll over or to fetch your slippers.

As you can see, there are many things you can do without others that are enjoyable and meaningful.

There are also many ways to interact with others, even if you can!t share a confined space with them. Six feet isn’t that much to overcome if you’re flexible and creative! Remember that others share your frustration. Things will eventually get back to normal.

And if you need added support, we are here for you! Here at Life Redefined, we offer Individual Therapy Services, couple therapy services, and family therapy services. We would be honored to be a part of your journey toward feeling more connected to yourself and others.

                                                                                     Thank You!

What you need to know about Telemental Health

Posted on June 30th, 2021

With folks being confined to their homes, and unable to maintain their normal routines, there is a global heightening of anxiety and extreme isolation. Now more than ever, improving and/or maintaining our mental health is an urgent matter. I know firsthand how hard therapists all over the country are working to ensure that their current clients and new clients have access to these must needed services.

What is Telemental Health?
Telemental health is the provision of remote mental health services (typically done via video. but can also be provided through text, email, or telephone.)by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists. Historically, the platforms that services are provided on, had to be HIPAA compliant. Given the sudden halt to services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, associations, and insurance panels have allowed more flexibility to the platforms that therapy can be provided on. What that means for you, is that sessions can be conducted on platforms such as FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and Skype. in the form of online counseling for depression. Your therapist will provide you with an informed consent discussing the limits, to confidentiality when sessions are conducted on a non- HIPPA compliant platform in addition to other logistics that will ensure a productive therapy session.

Who can receive Telemental Health Services?
The short answer to this is Everyone. You can be an existing client or a new client. You can be seen as an individual or as a couple or family. There can even be group sessions provided using this medium. In my own practice, I have used video sessions for individual therapy and couple’s therapy, who require online counseling for depression,  although it may take some getting used to, everyone adjusts a few minutes and the sessions deliver the same value as when they are face to face.

Why should you try out Telemental health?
The reality is the whole world stands in a place of uncertainty. Uncertainty about our health, our finances, and our futures. This level of uncertainty can spiral someone into a very unhealthy space. Additionally, there’s no playbook for surviving a pandemic so we are all novices at this. Psychological counseling Having a space that is carved out to process feelings and learn healthy coping is essential. There is a multitude of positive coping strategies that can be implemented, resulting in emerging from this devastating time more resilient than when you entered it. There are equally a number of unhealthy and destructive ways to get through this Pandemic. its helpful in online counseling for depression. We do not have control of much of our external world, which speaks to the importance of understanding and managing our internal world even more. Therapy is the space to learn how to do just that.

Signs that you may benefit from continuing or starting therapy via Telemental Health.
I believe that we all can use mental health services as I view therapy as another form of preventative health care, however, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms or exhibiting these behaviors, I would recommend that you 1) not cancel your sessions with your current therapist or 2) Find a therapist now that is offering telehealth services.

1. Extreme isolation
2. Increased Anxiety
3. Inability to manage negative thoughts
4. Constantly checking the news.
5. Soothing with unhealthy foods or alcohol
6. Overwhelm
7. Inability to sleep or sleeping too much
8. Irritability/anger outburst

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of video therapy, I would highly encourage you to try it out at least a couple of times before writing it off completely. Many people have been pleasantly surprised by the experience and appreciate its convenience of it. Imagine a couple’s therapy without having to find a babysitter! (Post kids’ bedtime of course). Just like traditional face-to-face sessions, you as a client have the right to try out as many therapists as needed until you find a good fit.
Lastly, keep in mind that most private practice therapists are also small business owners, they depend on their clients showing up to sustain their livelihood as well. Please keep that in mind before you cancel your session. In this season we all need to support each other.

How to find a Telehealth Therapist
Honestly, most therapists, like myself, have either exclusively gone to telemental health services or have it as an option. I would recommend looking at Psychology Today, entering your zip code, and finding a clinician in your area that matches your needs. Many have done a COVID-19 update that will let you know if they have taken sessions online. Also, if you think that you will continue with the telemental health post-Pandemic, you can use any therapist licensed in your state also find online counseling for depression to navigate this tumultuous time we have to step up our mental, physical, and spiritual health. I encourage everyone to utilize all of the resources available to them.

Sending you all so much love and light!
